About Joe

I help charities and social enterprises to grow, raise funds and turn good ideas into lasting change. My approach draws on over two decades in the charity sector and first-hand experience of building an organisation from scratch.


I founded The Wave Project and spent 13 years as its CEO, leading its growth from a local surf therapy initiative into a national charity supporting children and young people. Along the way, I gained practical experience in fundraising, strategy, communications and developing teams of staff and volunteers.


Since launching my consultancy in 2023, I’ve worked with charities and social enterprises on funding bids, business plans and campaigns. I bring that experience to each assignment, working closely with your team to find practical ways forward.

Career Highlights

The Wave Project

Chief Executive · 2010–2023

I founded and led The Wave Project for 13 years, ultimately responsible for 35 staff and an annual budget of £1.75m. 

Scaled the organisation from a start-up CIC to national charity supporting 2,000 children each year. 

Nutritank CIC

Director · 2024–present

I support Nutritank’s mission to strengthen nutrition education among future healthcare professionals.

I bring experience in charity leadership, strategy and fundraising to help the organisation develop its work and grow its impact.

City Kids Surfing

Chair of Trustees · 2025–present 

I provide board leadership to help City Kids Surfing develop its strategy and scale its work supporting children in inner-city London. 

Working with fellow trustees, I support the charity with governance, strategy and sustainable funding.

Recent Work

Corporate fundraising support

Changing Tunes wanted to develop a corporate fundraising programme to diversify their funding streams. By building relationships with businesses, I helped create new opportunities to support the charity’s work including securing a partnership with one of the world's biggest companies.

Bid writing and funding strategy

Be Creative Cornwall is a small CIC that hired me to provide regular funding bids to develop their creative therapy for neurodiverse young people. I support the Directors to identify funding opportunities and write bids to support the organisation's vital work with vulnerable young people.

Strategic insight and mentoring

I have helped Black Voices Cornwall to develop their new strategy to shape community programmes and enhance research into the challenges facing Black people in rural Britain. I have also delivered trustee and senior leader training to strengthen the charity’s governance.
